Death’s-head
The Acherontia moths are known for the human skull that we can guess on their thorax. Also called Death’s-head Hawk moths, they remind the beginning of the series of works that brought me to this How to fail better (The jar and the skull). These moths were a kind of signal that arose by chance but after they became the engine of successive associations and now I realize they draw a circle going from the fictional architectural typologies made in 2007 to some recent work in which the body seems to gain a space of its own; no longer a passive or inert one but a body which has loose the head and has no limits, an eccentric body escaping its own fate. So, there is something liberating in the organic vitality of the skulls that laugh of the rigor mortis which characterizes the small architectural models, and I wanted to organize all of it not only as a narrative sequence but also through new sets of relationships, therefore creating further possibilities of existence for the images and the figures in the images.

Death’s-head
As Acherontia são mariposas conhecidas pela caveira humana que se deixa adivinhar no seu tórax. Chamadas por vezes Death’s-head Hawk moths, fazem-me lembrar o início da série de trabalhos que me trouxe até este How to fail better (The jar and the skull). Essas mariposas foram uma espécie de sinal que surgiu por acaso mas depois tornaram-se no motor de sucessivas associações e hoje percebo que desenham um círculo que vai das tipologias arquitectónicas ficcionadas em 2007 a alguns trabalhos mais recentes em que o corpo parece querer ganhar um espaço próprio; já não um corpo inerte ou passivo mas um corpo sem cabeça e sem freio, um corpo excêntrico e em fuga à fatalidade que lhe estava destinada.  Há pois na vitalidade orgânica das caveiras que se riem do rigor mortis das pequenas arquitecturas qualquer coisa de libertador e que quis organizar não apenas como sequência narrativa mas também criando novos pares de relações, novas possibilidades de existência para as imagens e para as figuras nas imagens.
