DAP Meeting #0

Upside-down
FBAUP, 20-22 May 2025
DAP Rooms, Praça Coronel Pacheco, 15

This meeting is a first rehearsal, a year zero, for what we want to implement every year at DAP: a moment concentrated in time and space to share and cross-examine experiences about the work in progress, both through individual doctoral projects and other projects that intersect with them.

With the exception of Speed Dating and Portfolio Readings, any FBAUP PhD student can attend the sessions.

The open classes, as usual, are open to the entire community.

Active participation in the sessions is subject to registration:

The intention to attend the meeting is subject to registration, for logistical reasons:

No activity has a registration fee. We are, however, negotiating with nearby restaurants to try to find a cheap place to have lunch together or at least dinner on the last day (22 May). Prices and conditions for these meals to be announced soon

Confirmed external guests:

Cihan Cakmak
Steven Jacobs
Anselm Jappe
Marta Mestre
Mauro Cerqueira

PROGRAMME:

Speed dating
(open to all DAP students)

Sign up for a morning of speed dating (1×1), by semi-random pairing (we’ll avoid bringing together people from the same year) between DAP students, to share about current projects.

At the end of a series of meetings throughout the morning, we’ll meet in the early afternoon to discuss strategies for working together and ideas for how the DAP community can be connected over time, and not just for first-year students.

This is not a PhD
(open to all DAP students)

Presentations of the practical work that underpins PhD projects. This is not about discussing the specific methodologies of writing or what a PhD entails more formally, but just about returning to what is the core of a project based in artistic practice, either with presentations (15 minutes) in the auditorium or with visits to the studios for those working at Coronel Pacheco. Up to 15 projects will be selected for presentation.

I’m almost there…
(For DAP students in the final stages of their project)

Essay presentations (15 minutes + 5 minutes of comments by a panel of FBAUP professors) by PhD students who are in the final year of their project or in the final stages of writing their thesis. Up to 10 projects will be selected for presentation.

Reading of portfolios
(open to all DAP students)

Session organised in groups of 5 students who will present their portfolio to a guest from outside the faculty, in a closed session.

Confirmed names:

Cihan Cakmak
Mauro Cerqueira
Marta Mestre (20th May)

And one more guest to be confirmed…
