This photo comes from a box containing 22 negatives that was recently found frozen in a block of ice in a hut used first by Robert Falcon Scott on his ill-fated 1910-1913 expedition and later by Shackleton’s team, during its 1914-1917 expedition but never printed before. This photo shows Alexander Stevens, Shackleton’s chief scientist, looking south from the deck of the Aurora. In the background we can see Hut Point Peninsula on Ross Island, Antarctica.
