In 1967 the United States Geological Survey (USGS) created in Arizona a training site for the Apollo program. The craters, detonated with various explosives, looked similar to the ones found in particular landing sites on the Moon. In July of 1968, it was added a second crater field (in this photograph) at Cinder Lake [USGS].
